Tabs in Word

This is either an easy question or an impossible one. I would like to create a document with tabs like Excel; preferably but not necessarily at the top of the page.

In a perfect world, I'd like to be able to enter names on the tabs so they are easily identifiable. Is this possible?

Thank you

Can you give an idea of what you are looking for, visually?

How you function in Word depends on the version of Word. But in either case there are several ways to deal with tabs.

One method that might work in Word 2003 and Word 2007 is to create a table, indicating the number of rows and columns (or drawing it interactively). You can continue to use it as a table, or you can highlight the table (and only the table) and select table/convert/table to text. then one of the options is to use Tab separators for the columns.

In Word 2003, I use Format/Styles andformatting. You can create a new style. then you can modify the style, select Paragraph/tabs and set the tabs to precisely where you want them, also selecting the type of tab alignment you want for each column.

If these options don;t fit your application, perhaps you could give a visual idea of what you want to do?

Sorry; I should have put in my post that I'm using Office 2000. Ideally what I'd like is a document where each 'sheet' has a different title and the document has a related theme, exactly like worksheets in a workbook in Excel. Columns are just way too narrow.

I finally figured otu what you want. My confusion was because Tabs mean something else in Word. You are looking for Page Tabs. Othersd I believe a right. They don't exist.

why you did not use table of content or hyperlinks? it will not look like a tabs but you could put it wherever you want and it will lead you to the particular place in th edocument
