Summing negative numbers to return the Absolute Value

I have a sheet in which negative numbers are required, however, I need to convert the negatives to the absolute value on another sheet. I have tried =sum(abs(a2:a6)), but the I am only getting the #value ! error. Any suggestions?

Did you confirm the formula with Ctrl Shift Enter, rather than just enter?

If so the formula should be wrapped in {}

Or you can use the "regular" formula:

=SUMPRODUCT(ABS(A2:A6))

If all of the values are negative, normally-enter (just press Enter as usual):

=ABS(SUM(A2:A6))

If that were true (but I note the OP did not specifically state such) then this should suffice too.

=-SUM(A2:A6)
