Hi All,

I have a series of columns for orders on my spreadsheet. The furthest left column contains item numbers, the second column contains the quantities ordered whilst the final column contains the item names.

I'm trying to find a way whereby any items that are ordered multiple times have their quantity summed and placed next to the item name column. I have experimented with VLOOKUP and SUMIF but I've had no success.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Izila

What is =ROMAN(40) in Excel?
The Roman numeral for 40 is XL. Bill "MrExcel" Jelen's 40th book was called MrExcel XL.
Hi,

Just insert a pivot table ...

Your report will be done in less than 10 seconds ...

Hope this will help

Hi Izila

Sounds like what you want is a pivot table of your to show total qty ordered by item

however if you want to show the total qty next to the name then:

Assuming your data is in range A2:C13 (row 1 is for headings)
in Cell D2 enter: =SUMPRODUCT(--($A$2:$A$13=A2)*($B$2:$B$13)) . . . and copy down
This will show the total qty ordered by item number - note that it will show next to all repeats of that item number as well

If you do not want to see the total qty ordered for the repeated items, then the formula could be: =IF(COUNTIF(A$2:A2,A2)>1,"",SUMPRODUCT(--($A$2:$A$13=A2)*($B$2:$B$13)))

Hope this helps, although I still think a pivot table is better

Hi James.

Sorry for my late reply and thanks for your reply.

I'll try to use a pivot table now and see if I can get it to work.

Hi JV0710

Thanks for your reply. Is there any link in particular that you would recommend that properly explains Pivot tables?

I'm still a bit of an Excel amateur so I have been having a bit of difficulty getting the table to do what I need it to do.
