SumIF vs VLookup - Performance

Does anyone know which function is more efficient to use in terms of performance (speed) and memory usage?

SUMIF() typically would be, especially if you restrict the range evaluated rather than using whole column references.

They are interchangeable (a) when the result range is numeric and (b) the match range consists of unique records.

If (a) and (b) are met, a SumIf formula would be faster than a formula with VLOOKUP that must be invoked using the exact match-type.
