Hi,

I have a very simple formula:

=SUMIF(C49:C58,"James",A49:A58)

The values in Column A are being pulled from another sheet in the same workbook and are correct. I've checked for any errors (like extra spaces) in Column C. Instead of summing my results, I keep getting 0.

I tried pasting Column A as values and the SUMIF worked, but ideally I do not want to do that.

Any insight would be a huge help

Thank you!

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
That would indicate that your values in Column A are numbers stored as text rather than actual numbers.
If you can't fix that, then try this formula instead:
=SUMPRODUCT(--(C49:C58="James"),--(A49:A58))
