Sum of % in Pivot Table

I’m not sure if this is possible on a pivot table, but I’m hoping if someone knows they could help me out.

I have net sales and cost of sales. The material margin is the difference between the two. In our business we like to see it as a percentage. I can either get the sum of the two and divide the difference by net sales to get the material margin percent or I could divide cost of sales by net sales +1 and get the material margin percent.

Something else I noticed was that I could make cost of sales a percent of net sales. However, how do I get the sum of the percents? That would work too!

Thanks and I appreciate any help!

Excel Facts

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
Sum of % does not work in a "regular" Pivot Table.
There can be ways of generating the suitable initial calculation in the source data first that may work.
Otherwise you need to use the PowerPivot (DAX) calculation engine to force the correct order of operations.

What you are trying to do is similar to what we do. We have a calculated field set up (i.e. margin / sales) and then add it to the pivot and sum it. When formatted as a % it does the job just fine.
