sum countifs

I have a specific problem and looking for a more elegant solution.

In cells B3, K3, T3, AC3, AL3, I have single letters, (i.e. "E" or "U"). In AU3, I want to count the number of occurrences of "U" in the above mentioned cells.

A formula would be appreciated.

au3=COUNTIF(B3:AL3,B3)

au3=COUNTIF(B3:AL3,B3)

That formula counts every cell between B3 and AL3. I only want it to count those five specific cells.

=SUMPRODUCT(--(CHOOSE({1,2,3,4,5},B3,K3,T3,AC3,AL3)="U"))
