sum between two variables

I'm trying to find the sum of a range of numbers which depends of a product number and the date it was issued, between a hole range of products and different dates. Tried sumproduct, sumif, vlookup and sum, nothing seems to work. What can I do?

btw. I have changed the date from ex. 11.11.2011, to 112011 because I only have to use the monthly usage, and though a straight number would be better

Assuming the start date and end dates are in cells (E1 & F1) you can use

=SUMIFS(sum_range, date_range,">="&E1,date_range,"<="&F1,product_range,product_num)

or in Excel 2003

=SUMPRODUCT(--(date_range>=E1),--(date_range<=F1),--(product_range=product_num),sum_range)

It is not the same problem

I want it to sum the usage for ex 04.2011 of product X, and then again for ex 06.2012 of product X, but the product and date two should be dependent of each other
