There should be a button added so you can bump your thread, and allow it to be pressed once every hour or so. Not adding additional text or anything, just a bump. The popularity of the forums allows some unresolved problems to go un-noticed. Even if there's replies, it's sometimes not solved and people assume it is due to 1 or more replies.

Not a good idea!
Problems remain unresolved for usually very good reason(s).

Unanswered questions appear in the unanswered questions (zero reply posts) list. This is scanned regularly by experienced board members and it actually better than bumping your post (at least for the first 24 hours). As an all-volunteer board, not all questions receive an answer. There are pro's and con's to marking threads "solved" and we don't do that here. If a question is not resolved after a reply has been given and the responder is not following up with you a bump each day for a few days is your best shot. It may be that you need to re-state the problem, or even that it requires specialized knowledge and can't be answered by the majority of our members.

Try to give yourself the best chance of a solution by following our [posting guidelines]. The general rule is to make your question clear and provide all the relevant data required for the solution. Other tips:
  • use a thread title that 1) gives an indication of the nature of the problem, and 2) is concise
  • in some cases, test data to recreate or demonstrate the problem is helpful
  • certain problems are more easily shown with a board html maker such as [Excel-Jeanie]
  • at times it helps to know the version of Excel you are using and it is best to just include that information if in doubt
  • solutions that require a significant investment of time to answer may be unanswered just because there's no one with the time to tackle it for you
  • if you have tried some ideas and found they didn't work posting your failed attempts can be helpful. It may be possible to show you where your mistake is, which could be a quick solution for you as well as a good opportunity to learn from your own mistakes.
  • providing some context makes it easier to understand some problems (i.e., what are you trying to do). That also might lead to "out of the box" solutions about better ways to get from point A to point B with regard to the task at hand

While I agree some problems remain unsolved for good reasons, such as not making sense or providing relevant info, a very high percentage do post properly and there's a chance someone who actually knows the answer can see your post if you bump it. Even following the posting guidelines, a complex problem may just need the right person to stumble across it, which is where bumping helps greatly. I still figure this forum would benefit, if not once an hour, being able to bump every x hours or days.
