Hi
Why when I subtract time in excel the result is time; while subtracting date, excel give a number? Thank you so much.

Hi, the reason for this is because when you enter dates into excel, it converts it from a number value that excel has stored into the date (assuming you have it formatted as a date). If you were to set the format of those dates to general, it should show you that the value is 43388 and 43389 respectively. So when you subtract them, you get 1, which is the difference in those numbers and also the difference in days between the 2.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I got the subtraction idea. But my question, why excel did not return 1/1/1900.
as as when I subtract time, the result is not 1 as a number but 1:00 am as a time
