Microsoft keeps rebuilding their default screensavers, when I go into Windows and delete them.

Does anyone know the file (is it a .dll?) I need to attack/kill to stop 'control-freakish' behavior by MS?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi

Screensavers are great for introducing viruses, I would not have any running and switch off the screen between sessions.

Is your anti virus definitions up to date, a good free anti virus is AVG from http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

You may have to restart your pc in safe mode and use Regedit to delete the key that is the cause of it, just preparing you for possible trouble ahead.

No no no. You misunderstood

I'm referring to Microsoft pre-installed screensavers. You know, ... those old ones like Starfield, and Flying Windows, et cetera....

I don't want them to show up in my Display Properties window (rt. click, Properties on your Desktop).

But, when I delete them out of the C:\\Windows folder, Microsoft (in its infinite wisdom of what it thinks I like) has a built-in mechanism that 'rebuilds' (seconds later) what *.scr's I've just deleted.

I need a MS expert to tell me how to stop my XP system from doing this.

Thanks,
Rob

P.S., its not a virus. I'm a virus EXPERT. (Trust me, its not.)

Hi

OK, that sounds like Microsoft, it does what you say, I tried getting rid of the built-in games y'kno solitaire, mshearts etc, and they keep coming back.

If your pc was on a network the files can be given given access to those users with permissions.

Failing that, go into Regedit and make a backup first, then delete every key that mentions ssstars.scr and any others you wish to remove.
