Status bar not visible unless I close the Ribbon

For some reason, cannot see the status bar unless I close the ribbon. This is pain when doing link worksheets. I have looked at the options dialogue box and tried help, but nothing seems to address this.
Any help out there?:confused:
 
Sorry but it isn't clear what you mean. Is the window simply too big so that you only see the status bar if you use CTRL + F1 to hide the ribbon? Excel 2007 or 2010?
