I have an assistant who would like to learn more about Sql Server.

Does anyone have a favorite author or book?

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.
Which part of SQL Server are you after, server administration, database administration, or T-SQL coding. If the latter, I like two books,

Transact-SQL Programming
Kline, Gould & Zanevsky
O'Reilly

and

SQL Queries for Mere Mortals
Viescas & Hernandez
Addison Wesley

If you're looking for a book about SQL Server development work (rather than being an administrator) then I highly recommend "Beginning Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Programming" by Robert Vieira [ISBN 978-0-470-25701-2].

I've read the 2005 version and that was very good too.
