For some reason when I am working on a spreadsheet on my Laptop I click the Square on the top right to reduce it to "say" half my screen size in order I can view "say" a Web page at the same time but it just reduces to a small box on the top left hand corner - I'm not sure how to fix this so would appreciate some help

Excel Facts

Last used cell?
Press Ctrl+End to move to what Excel thinks is the last used cell.
but it just reduces to a small box on the top left hand corner
When you are in that condition you should be free to resize and reposition the window; can't you do that?

Its even worse now I click on the small box on the top right corner and it looks like there is a box within a box but my Spreadsheet does not resize at all so god knows what is going on

With the Excel window as the active window, what happens if you hold down the <windows> key and hit the right arrow ?

Solution
Sorry for the delay
Held the Window key down and pressed the right key and my spreadsheet reduced in the right half of the screen so brilliant so when I started typing this the Excel reduced to the Taskbar

Balcomie,

When marking a post as the solution, be sure to mark the actual post that contains the solution.
I fixed this thread so that it marks the post with Alex's solution, and not the one where just he asks you if you are set now.
