Hi

Basic access question i am sure;

I am trying to sum a number of columns in Access. The file is in the following format

Name (Column A)
Jan (Column B)
Feb (Column C)

I am trying to add column B and C using the Sum function but keep getting the "Your Query does not include Specific expression "Name" as part of an aggregate function"

The SQL is as follows;

SELECT Sum([Database 1]![Jan]+[Database 1]![Feb]) AS Total, [Database 1].[Name]
FROM [Database 1];

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Paul

Hi,
a sql aggregate query requires a group by clause, so should be:

SELECT Sum([Database 1]![Jan]+[Database 1]![Feb]) AS Total, [Database 1].[Name]
GROUP BY [Name]
FROM [Database 1];

BTW, Name is a vba keyword so always enclose it in brackets (or better yet don't use it as a field name).
