I recently discovered the absence of the normal notification sound when opening an excel file that requires update links to be administered.
This is the one which says in the notice the following:
This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe.
If you trust the links, update them to get the latest data. Otherwise, you can keep working with the data you have.
THEN you are required to select from three possible choices as follows:
"Update" "Don't Update" "Help"

I have not changed anything in excel and all links are safe. Suddenly the notification sound just does not happen when this notice appears.
Anyone have any ideas why this might be?

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
Thanks Gerald, but the speakers do work in other apps such as video or YouTube or online films or when I double click a wav file in the C:\Windows\media location where the Windows Default looks for sounds, but only do not work with the excel issue and also I discovered the speakers do not work with Windows Program Events such as found in the Windows Default scheme found in the "Sounds" tab regarding events such as "Asterisk", "Calendar Reminder", etc., etc.
I originally thought this excel issue had to do something with the options in excel, but alas not the case. I even reinstalled the audio driver, but to no avail.
This most definitely has something to do with the speakers not engaging for any Windows notifications. Otherwise the speakers engage for any other app.

Gerald,
Problem solved. Volume Mixer setting was mute on system sounds.
Thanks for your help.
