Sort Files into Subfolders Based on First 6 Characters

Hi,

I tried searching for this on the forum but I was not able to find anything similar to what I am trying to accomplish.

I have a bunch of files that have the file name structured as follows "C_1000xxxxxxxx", "C1001xxxxxxxx." The length of the file name changes based on the part after the first 6 characters.

What I'd like to do is sort the files into subfolders that I've already created that are named with the same 6 characters. So the C_1000xxxxx, C_1000xxxxxx files would be sorted into the C_1000 subfolder based on their name, the C_1001 files sorted into the C_1001 subfolder, etc.

Any ideas on how to do this would be appreciated.

Try this, changing the path of the folder containing the files (sourceFolder). Assumes the C_1000, C_1001, etc. subfolders are subfolders of sourceFolder.
