I have a spreadsheet containing data drawn from an access database. I want to sort by the date column, which is in dd/mm/yyyy format however I dont have the oldes/newest option on my sort menu. I tried to set the date to general format and found some of the dates returned as numbers i.e. 40656. I can get around the problem by retyping in the data however the spreadsheet contains in excess of 1000 records. Any help would be appreciated.

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
you need not worry about the number like 40656
as a matter of fact exel saves the dates only like this numbers. what you see as dd/mm/yy oir dd/mmm/yy are only format for viewing purposes

so you can sort as they are.

only thing is to remember
that in USA type regional configuration excel date is entered as
mm/dd/yy
and some other regional set up it is entered
as
dd/mm/yy.
what is your set up.
suppose it is usa type then
11/1/11 is November first and not eleventh January. keep this in mind.
