Hi, can anyone help me how to sort data in excel with help of rank function?
I have made until the rank function, however, I dont have any idea how to get the expected result in column F.

Please help!

Excel Facts

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)
RANK won't give you the same value for different numbers, so how did you get the values the first time

Based on your image and if your product codes start in D4...
Make F3 blank, put the formula
=IF(LEFT(D4,1)<>LEFT(D3,1),F3+1,F3)
in F4 and copy down. Copy and paste column F as values, select the whole range and sort by column F then column E.

Columns D & E should now be in the order requested.

HI Mark,
thank you for replying. However, what I want is to create formula in F column. Not with Excel build in function.
