A friend of mine is doing simple sums of cells, but in certain cells in that range a small triangle appears in the top left hand corner of that cell.

Whatever you input in those cells do not add up in the results cell.

Their is some form of strange formatting happening here,
Any ideas ?

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
Hey,

That triangle indicates that the value is formatted as a text or preceeded by an apostrophe (')

If the format of the cell is a number then the culprit will be a leading apostrophe!
