Slow Excel browsing in Editing mode, but Protected View seems to be fast

Dear all,

I am helping a friend out, but I come across a problem that I am unable to solve. Consider the following file, I am unable to detect, why on earth the file opens extremely slowly and makes everything unworkable, like simply filtering and browsing the file. I have tried the following:

  1. I have disabled all external connections in my Trust Center, so it won't try to retrieve external files, however this has not improved the Excel. Browsing the table, still seems to be extremely slow.
  2. I know that the links are not working, but that should not hinder the workings of the data that has been loaded.
  3. Protected View seems to be able to open the file quite quickly and allows me to browse the tables.
My question is therefore:

  1. How should I analyse why my Excel is browsing the file extremely slowly in editing mode?
  2. How can I resolve the issue? I have disabled the external data connections, am I forgetting something?
  3. How did you find out what the reason was that the Excel file is extremely slow?

Thank you all in advance!
