I really like the slicers in Excel when working with data scenarios, but I don't like having to scroll up and down through the list of options.

Is there a way to add a "Search" box at the top like the traditional drop-down auto-filter? Or, does anyone know a loophole to making one?

I feel like this is a big miss with this great tool.

Save Often
If you start asking yourself if now is a good time to save your Excel workbook, the answer is Yes
Hi Derek,

Yes, that would be a nice feature to have as part of the Slicers.

One workaround would be to add another "dummy" PivotTable above the slicer and have it only display that single field in the Report Filters area (no Row Labels, Column Labels or Values).

By connecting this PivotTable to the slicer, you can use that Report Filter's search box; and any changes made to that filter will be synced to the slicer and all Pivots connected to the slicer.

Thank you Jerry, I know this thread is old, but I was searching the web for the same solution. Your workaround works perfect! Too bad the designers did not think of that in the first place.

Hello, well this thread is very old, so I hope it it still alive. I need to do exactly that but I do not understand the steps. I did try to create a "dummy" pivot table but to no avail (actually I have no idea what is a dummy pivot table). Can you, or someone, provide me a step-by-step procedure ?

Thanks in advance !

Hi Pierre,
a dummy pivot, is nothing more than another pivot table referencing the same data as your primary table. The easiest way to do this is to simply copy and paste your primary table. Then remove all the fields (columns, rows, etc.) leave only the filter that you will need to control you primary table. Lastly connect them using the slicer function.

hope that helps.
