Hi

I am trying to use the offset function with an array as my last argument
{=OFFSET($H$10,0,ROW(INDIRECT("1:2")))} and I keep getting a #value! error
when I just enter {= ROW(INDIRECT("1:2"))} into a 1 x 2 array I get 1 and 2 - how come I cant use this as my last argument

I am sure this is a dumb question but .....

thanks in advance

If your anchor cell is H10, what range of cells did you want your OFFSET function to return?

Control+shift+enter, not just enter:

=SUM(N(OFFSET($H$10,0,ROW(INDIRECT("1:2")))))

would sum the values of I10 and J10.

I am trying to return values in I10 and J10

but really am More interested in why it doesn't work - if the little array formula returns the right answer when used alon why doesn't it work in the offset formula

I must be doing something wrong
thanks

Do google on dereferencing (or its mistyped version: deferencing) and second round of evaluation.

Once done that, try to specify your objective, so a search can be done for more appropriate means.
