show every other data label

Is it possible to show every other data label as well as the final data label without manually deleting them?

I have a chart with a number of data points and when I show all of the data labels, they overwrite each other. It's not necessary to see every one, but I need some data labels at regular intervals and I need the final data label. The chart updates frequently, so I don't want to be adding and removing data labels manually. I'm on Excel 2007 now, hoping to upgrade to 2010 or 2013.

Possible? or am I chasing rainbows?

It's always the final data label that I have trouble with. Look for pretty colors.
