Sheet Protection & Grouping/Outline

It appears that protecting a sheet makes navigation of the Grouping/Outline structure unusable. For example, if you enable Grouping/Outline for a sheet this results in the addition of the Outline Bar at the left and/or top of the sheet. This contains +/- symbols & group level symbols on the Outline Bar to allow for the expansion/contraction of the defined groups of rows or columns. This is all fine and good and works without problem as long as the sheet is NOT PROTECTED. However, as soon as you protect the sheet, the current outline structure of the sheet is locked wherever it was, and you cannot select the +/- symbols to change the outline structure. Can anyone explain why this works like this ? I don't understand why the outline level of the sheet should be protected - no updates are occuring, it is just defining what level of detail you can see.

Does anyone know if there is a way to UNPROTECT the outline attributes of a sheet so that you can allow a user to select his/her outline structure while a sheet is protected ? If anyone has any input, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Thanks, that works fine. It seems a pain that you can only do that via VBA. It seems like you should be able to specify this via the UI somehow. Oh well ...

Thanks again,
Chris
