Please let me know if this needs to be posted elsewhere.

I do FP&A for a matrix organization and we ended up with horrid templates that 1) have to be shared files so all the teams have the ability to write their commentary at the same time, 2) link to each other so the parent region files pull in the commentary from the sub regions and 3) files live on 4 different shared drives located around the globe.

The files are bulky and annoying because they're shared files and live in different shared drives, but still functioned relatively normally every month for the past 1.5 years. However, over the last month for me and others, the files are taking ages to open, like 5-10 minutes.. some people have even waited 20 minutes or so. The files often crash as well. I even have trouble opening files that have opened fine in the past, nixing the idea that it could be a problem with the newer files. It's also strange because while half of us are miserable because of these files, there are also people that have no troubles at all. Unfortunate our IT team is not doing anything to help the situation.

I believe everyone is on Excel 2016 and a majority of people are working from home (though this has been the case for the past year as well).

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this issue?

P.S. I know the file setup we have is bad, and we initially wanted to use Sharepoint... but it was not compatible with our version of Excel and our financial planning software.
