I have a workbook which about 10 teachers will want to access, quite often at the same time.

Currently, only one teacher can access the workbook at the one time.

I've only just heard about 'shared workbooks', so here's my question ...

If teacher A only needs to add data to rows (let's say) 6 to 30, teacher B only needs to add data to rows (let's say) 31 to 55, teacher C only needs to add data to rows (let's say) 56 to 80, etc etc etc, would operating the workbook as a 'shared workbook' allow the various teachers to access the workbook at the same time with no issues ?

Are there any limitations of operating a workbook as a shared workbook ?

In this workbook, there are numerous Userforms, listboxes, and some other controls. Can different teachers operate these Userforms and controls at the same time in a shared workbook ?

Are there other things I should know about shared workbooks ?

Kind regards,

Chris

Hi,
Most here will likely say to you do not share a workbook as can create too many problems.

Have a look here:Common issues of shared workbook

And see if any points raised could be a problem for you.

Another option to consider would be to create template copies of your workbook for each user & have these write their data to a database (can be another workbook) on your network.

Others here may have alternative suggestions.

Dave, thankyou, so much, for your response.

I was pinning my hopes on using a shared workbook to allow access to the teachers simultaneously, but will leave things as they are.

Kind regards,

Personally, I avoid them but some users have made a success sharing - You can try it but just be aware of the issues mentioned in link & also, expect to be disappointed as not only do you lose some functionality, but most end users kind of expect a shared workbook to update like a database, in real time.
