Hi,

For some excel workbooks, right when I open them I get the prompt "The author would like you to open "..." as read-only unless you need to make changes. Open as read-only?"

How do I change a workbook that does not have this setting to prompt the user?

Thanks,

Spell Check in Excel
Press F7 to start spell check in Excel. Be careful, by default, Excel does not check Capitalized Werds (whoops)
Select File, Info, Protect Workbook Drop-down and choose "Always open read-only". If you want to add a password to unlock for editing, you must use a different path:
File, Save As, click "More Options":

then click on the Tools button to the left of the Save button and choose "General options":

Solution
Thanks! I was confused because when I select the file and right click. Then select -> properties-> read only

It doesn't change the file to read only.

That too changes the file to read-only, but on the OS level. Try it, you should not be able to overwrite the file.
