Sequence In Select Query

Does anyone know how I can set sequence numbers within a select query?

i.e a column called Sequence and then 1st row of my output = 1 then 2 etc

SELECT * FROM SomeTable ORDER BY Sequence;

or,

SELECT * FROM SomeTable ORDER BY Sequence Desc;

To sort descending

Thanks for your reply.

this column needs to show the sequence i.e a count of each row. so row 1 = number 1 then 2 etc

How can I build this into the query?
