Greetings.

I have a large list (actually 3 lists I must combine) the names run the gamut in length (some have 5 names, some middle initials, some middle names, suffix, etc.) and are currently in one cell. I separated the cells but how do I separate the list so that I can safely alphabetize? I will then need to remerge the names back into one cell.

Also is there a way to add periods to all the Middle Initials?

Please help.

Thank you in advance.

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Can you give an example of what is having to be dealt with?

Ok Basically there are three lists set up with separate last name, first name, middle initial, title, then a category. They need to be merged and alphabetized, by category and by last name then unified, First Name MI Last, Title. I have them alphabetized by category but united the names the names are now in one cell. Can I alphabetize by last name even though there is title after?

Some lists are only first and last name and the others have a MI.

Example:
Smith Edward Peter PhD Building One
White R John MD Building One
Rogers Ralph MD Building Two

I've got it so it is now
Building One Peter Edward Smith, PhD
Building One John R White, MD
Building Two Ralph Rogers, MD

Is there a way to alphabetize by last name now that they are in only one cell?

Thank you in advance.
