sending files with power pivot to other users without power pivot

Hi,
I tried to look if there was a topic like this but couldn't find it (not more recent than 2010 anyway). sorry if this has been answered earlier.

I would like to make a power pivot model, but it's for someone who doens't have power pivot in their package. Can they still use it or just view?

They can open the workbook and see what was the last saved state. But they can't interact with the data model
