Hi,
I wonder if someone can help me with a problem I have in Excel 2016. Based on the last digit in a 5 figure number in a column I
am trying to select the corresponding character in a text string in adjacent columns and format that character e.g Red - Bold. So if the
last digit is 2 then select the second character the text string in columns to the right and format it as required.

Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop

I think conditional formatting pertains to cells, not the values in the cells. So you cannot just change the "34" in "12345" to "12345".
What is it you're trying to accomplish? Mr. Excel has a tool called xl2bb add in (link below) that allows users to post mini worksheets of their work so the forum can see what you're trying to do. Please do so, and maybe the forum can provide you with a solution you have not considered?

Best Wishes, Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi awoohaw,
Thanks for the quick reply, you confirmed what I thought was the case regarding conditional formatting.

And Happy Thanksgiving to you!
