I have not found a good answer to this...in the newer versions of Excel, you can keep selecting a cell or group of cells multiple times if you hold down the CTRL key, it will get progressively darker. This is fun for distracting myself by making patterns with the selections, but is there an actual application for this feature? MS said something about an upgrade to their graphics engine, but I have not found any application for it as yet. I understand using CTRL to select multiple, non-consecutive cells, just not selecting the same cell 8 or 9 times. But there HAS to be a use, right?

Excel Facts

Control Word Wrap
Press Alt+Enter to move to a new row in a cell. Lets you control where the words wrap.
It could signify that you have inserted the same cell reference into a formula multiple times...
(Never noticed that before.)

Perhaps there is no purpose. It could just be an artifact of the GUI programming where a CTRL+Click means 'darken cell x%'.

Spiller, I think that's the best suggested use I've seen. There may be a reason to use a cell multiple times in a formula, and distinguishing it this way certainly makes sense. Though DRSteele's is probably the actual explanation, I'm somehow happier knowing there is a use for it. Thanks guys!
