I have an MS Access 97 db on a closed LAN. If I take a copy of the db and go onto a stand alone PC with MS Access 2k, I can't open it.

I get a message which says:-

The current user account doesn't have permission to convert or enable this db.

What do I have to do to open and convert the db?

Any help would be appreciated.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
If the database has been secured then you will need a copy of the system .MDW file that is used with the database.

I have the system.mdw file from the Access 97 m/c. If I join it, successfully, it prompts me for a password when I open the Access 2000 db. What do I do now?

once you enter the password it should let you convert it to 2000 or use it as it is. you should only need to convert if you are planning to make alterations to the DB design.

On the Access 97 m/c no password is entered. Only my colleagues username appears. By pressing Enter, the db opens.

It sounds as if your colleague has not had a password set againt his username. what happens in 2000 if you just hit enter with your colleagues username?

Still doesn't work. It comes up with the original message "The current user account doesn't have permission to convert or enable this database".

The ownership of the db belongs to my colleague, if that helps.
