Hi,

I see that there are numerous free programs that can remove VBA module passwords. I want to distribute a solution we have developed to a client, but as an Add-In, and want to know how the security differs between the Add-In and a normal macro enabled file (with the VBA code password protected) and whether the Add-In is also subject to the same security weaknesses as a macro enabled file which has the VBA code password protected.

Thanks,
Pete

Excel Facts

Fastest way to copy a worksheet?
Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.
I would be surprised if the vba project security for an add-in was in any way different from a normal ( non add-in) vba project.

It depends what kind of addin it is. If you've just created an Excel Add-in, it's the same as a normal workbook. If you've created a COM addin (written in another language and compiled), things are different since the code will not be viewable in the VBA IDE and will need decompiling to read the code.

Hi Kyle123,

Thanks for that feedback. Is it possible to compile VBA code to a COM Add-In without writing in another language first?

Peter
