Searchable Dropdowns in Excel Application?

Hi. I saw several threads at the start of 2022 that said that "Searchable Dropdowns for the Excel Application (not the Web) are in the Beta Channel".
They mention that this capability (entering a few letters in a dropdown to narrow down the results) has been available in Excel for Web for a while now.

It is now December, and I did verify that this capability still exists in Excel for Web. However, for me in the CURRENT channel, this capability never made it into the Excel Application.

Does anyone have any insight into this? Was this feature just forgotten? Discontinued in BETA?

I have seen a few posts here mentioning an Add-On that seems to work, but my preference is to avoid that if possible and use native Excel features only ...

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
