Is it possible to define/limit the fields that are actually checked when you use the search box, to speed up matters? I've done a quick Google search on this and haven't found anything. For the database I'm working on, there are 3-5 fields (out of ~20-25 in total) that are relevant for searches, so might be handy if the search box only looked in those.

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
My recollection of using search with access was that you could search "whole table" or "within a field". But not within 3-5 fields. I haven't used versions of Access since 2007 for day to day work though.

Not within the 'Find' command on the ribbon.... if this is something you do often then I would recommend using a query to do the search - limiting the criteria to only look in those fields.

Thanks for your replies. I'll think about whether a query searching specific fields only is worth doing under these circumstances.
