search between Excel sheets

I would like my spreadsheet to have two sheets. One will have people with their areas of interest and expertise. The second sheet will have requests from customers for people with specific areas of interest and expertise. Can I make the second sheet search the first one and come up with people who fit the criteria?

That's possible but we would need more information. You can start by designing your 2 sheets and then describe in detail what you want to do referring to specific cells, rows, columns and sheets using a few examples from your data.
