running powerpoint show and excel at the same time

I am running a powerpoint show and excel at the same time i. i have macros in excel that run everyhour. but in order to run the powerpoint show powerpoint has to be active. so when i click off of excel to get the powerpoint running it stops the macros from running and if i click back to excel my powerpoint stops running.
