Rich Text to Doc

Dear Sir,

This is to inform you that I have saved a file in Rich Text Format, now I am unable to open in "Doc" formate.
Pls help me out regarding the matter

1. What is the original format of the file
2. How do you save it as a Rich Text File.
3. What program do you then try to open it with.
