Hello.

I use Office Home and Business 2010, V14. It often happens that, when I open an existing spreadsheet to work in it, I can't use any of the functions on the ribbon. No problem selecting cells in the spreadsheet, and no problem closing it (red X in upper right corner) but no functionality with any of the ribbon items.

Does anyone else experience this, and what can one do to rectify it?

I look forward to hearing. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
What do you mean by "no functionality?" Is the ribbon gone, or do you see the options but they are greyed out?

The ribbon is visible, and the icons look as usual. When I click on any of the icons in the ribbon, nothing happens.

Does it only happen with particular workbooks, or any?
Are you opening the workbooks from within Excel or from Explorer /Outlook or another method?
If from Explorer, do you have the file preview showing in Explorer? If so, try turning it off.

The problem occurs intermittently. I usually open files from Explorer, and occasionally from Outlook or Thunderbird. Source has little to do with the glitch. At times I can go for days without the problem occurring.
