Rev up to Excel 2010. Chapter 1- The Mini Toolbar.
Hey! Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast.
I'm Bill Jelen.
We got a new book coming out, Rev up to Excel 2010.
This book is all about those of you who are using Excel 2003 or an earlier version and going to Excel 2010 or Excel 2007.
It shows you just the new things.
Now, the book covers a lot.
I'm just going to choose one item per chapter.
And here, I want to talk about something great... formatting tool called, the mini toolbar.
The mini toolbar now, you know...
All the commands in Excel 2010 are up here in the Ribbon.
That was the new rule nothing floating.
Now, but the one concession they made is that, they were going to create something called the mini toolbar.
Which allowed you to do, some editing commands right in the spreadsheet.
But now, here's a question. I have a survey for you.
When you select data, are you the kind of person, who goes left to right or right to left?
Now, I have no idea why. But, I'm a right-to-left person.
I think it's easier to select the data.
When you go right to left and if you're a right-to-left person like me, you may never see the mini toolbar because the mini toolbar is expecting you to be a left-to-right person.
So, let me show you if I select data; and I go left to right.
Naturally, I'm headed towards the right and you can see, the mini toolbar starts to appear right there, and gives me plenty of options for changing the data that's selected.
However, if you're a left...
If you are a right-to-left person like this, you're actually moving away from the mini toolbar, and they decide to never give you an opportunity to see it.
So, as you're moving down here to the left, you won't see the mini toolbar.
You have to scooch back up, to the right.
In order to see the mini toolbar up here.
Now there's a couple of different versions of the mini toolbar, depending what we were doing.
If you're editing cell contents, you have just a shortened variety of items.
If you want to edit the entire cell and a great way to do this is to right-click.
When you right-click you get the full mini toolbar.
I find that, I'm using the mini toolbar a lot more in Word.
I am in Excel, but still a great way about 22 different commands.
So, you can access right there at the touch of a mouse.
Either by selecting the data and going left to right, or right clicking and getting to, in the mini toolbar.
