Return value instead of formula in cell - screenshot attached

Hi, everyone,
I'm using an Excel file that I've had in play for a long time without this issue. Suddenly, when I edit the formula, it returns the formula instead of the value. All cells that are not being edited are not having this problem. I need the cells to show the values and not the formulas. Any idea why editing the syntax of the formula would change the result from value to formula?

Cell B3 shows the value when selected, not the formula.
Cell B2 shows what happened when I updated the column index number from $A$!:$AA$892 to $A:$B. How it returns the formula instead of the value.

I appreciate any help with this.

Usually happens when the cell is formatted as text. Set it to 'General', double click on the cell, hit enter, and it should work.

Second problem: When I manually type in an edit in a cell in column A to change a number, it returns #N/A in column B. Ideas? Why is manually typing in a change suddenly changing the format of the number in column A?

lrobbo314, it's already formatted as "General." B column is returning the formula instead of the value. Meanwhile, if I pull up the formula builder, it shows the correct computation and resulting value. That value just isn't appearing in the cell. ??​

I quit and restarted Excel, and the problems disappeared. Maybe there was something buggy about the program which was corrected by restarting. Thanks for the help!
