Hi all

I have two lists of partner names - one has just a list of names (and some other related data) - (Partner ID's), the other has a list of names with a corresponding ID number (Partner Data).

So I have this formula in F1 in the sheet Partner ID's: =IF(E1="None",COUNTIFS('Partner Data'!B:B,B1&"*"&C1&"*"&D1&"*"&"*"),"")

E1 is a lookup, looking for a match between the name in the two sheets, then returning the ID. If no match, returns "None"

Some of the partner names in the two lists are a bit different - Adam Sandler Movies Ltd vs Adam Sandler Movies Limited, for example.

So, in B1 in the Partner ID's sheet I have a formula to return the first name of the partner, in C1 and second name, and D1 the third.

The formula above (in F1) counts how many times that combination of first, second and third names appears in column B of the Partner Data sheet.

Now what I really want is a formula in G1 that, if F1 returns "1", will return the actual partner name from column B of the Partner Data sheet. This will then allow a further lookup to return the ID.

Of course, I have more than likely over complicated things - so ideally it would be great if F1 returned the actual name, rather than having a COUNTIFS formula. But if it can't that's fine.

Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance for any help!!

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
