Retrieving Information with a Data Access Page

Hi

I need to know how to create a data access page whereby a user can type in a reference and retrieve data from a table based on the reference they have typed in.

I cant see how to run anything based on events in data access pages however. Clicking on a command button doesnt seem to trigger anything. Nor can I see how subs / functions can be called by user actions

Any help appreciated.
