I want to use Access to schedule and keep track of AV Equipment for my company. Is this a good tool to use or will it be a nightmare to figure out how to do it? I'm very new to Access, so I'm not sure what it can/cannot handle. I'd like to be able to have a nice schedule that I can view to see free/scheduled dates and so forth.

Let me know your opinions!

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Well, without knowing a lot about the project, I think that Access should be an excellent tool for you. What are your time constraints, though? If you are developing this tool for something other than personal use (i.e. you have people to answer to) and you need time to learn about table structures, queries, data entry forms, etc., then you might end up creating more stress than it's worth and you might need to settle for Excel right now. It sounds like a fairly simple project, though, and if you have the luxury of being able to actually learn Access, then it would probably be the best solution for this as well as future projects.

There really are no time constraints. I'm doing this solely for my benefit. I thought that I could use it at a learning project with Access. I have some online learning classes available to me for Access, and I guess that would be the best place to start. I wasn't sure how "user friendly" the application was though. Thanks for your feedback!

Yes, Access is far and away the most user-friendly database tool. I only started professional development about 5 months ago using Access and I'm already at sub-Guru status. That's great that you'll be using this as a learning tool, search the Archives for links to other good sites (although this is about the best novice-level Access forum out there).
