I have colour coded a chart according to values in cells.
So if a cell had "1" in it, it is green, and if it has "2" it is red.

Simple stuff.

I now want to delete the 1's and 2's out of the cells, but keep the colour coding.

That can't be as difficult as i am findin it ... can it?

Hi - Welcome to the board

Just select the range you want to clear and press the delete key.

do not use Edit | Delete

hiya Tim, welcome to the board!

i'm not so sure that this is that 'simple' a task. as conditional formats don't really have bearing on traditional 'formats'. sounds like you'll need a vba solution, or possibly manually.?

I forgot to say in the body of the post:
the colour coding is donwe using conditional formatting.

I am finding that when I delete the value, the formatting goes too.
I assumed a "Paste special" would give me the option.

Any ideas?

So you want to delete the values, but keep the shading. Even though the condition is no longer true?

Yeah - exaclty that.
I have used the conditional formatting to get the shading, and now I just want the shading - not the condition.

am I asking too much?

No

Is there only one condition?

Is the fill color the only thing you want to copy?

What is the range you want to change? i.e. A2:Z50

There are two conditions:
if cell = 1, colour green
if cell = 2, colour red

Yes, the fill colour is the only thing I want to copy.

The range is A2:T94

I gotta go home now - I'll check backt tomorrow.

thanks for any help you can give!
