Referring to PowerQuery or Duplicating it: What's the difference?

What is the difference between referring to a powerquery table and duplicating it?

Does referring to it make it refresh automatically when the original is updated, too?

Click the italics "fx" icon to the left of the formula bar to open the Functions Arguments dialog. Help is displayed for each argument.
Referring will take all the steps done in the original query and start from there. Duplicating brings all the steps over. Referring does not take the result of the other query and then the new steps added but runs through it all on refresh.
