Referencing part of a formula in another cell

Hi I would like an excel formula (not VBA) to pick up part of a formula from another cell.

For example:
In cell A2 I have the formula =28/384
I would like a formula in cell A2 to extract just the 28

Is this possible?

Thanks!

Welcome to the MrExcel board!

It is possible without vba if you are using Excel 2013 or later.

If that is so, could you give a few more examples of what the formula could be, and what results you expect from those formulas.

Edit: I assume you didn't actually mean cell A2 both times?

Hi - yes, you are right I didn't mean A2 both times! Oops!

in cell A1 I would have a formula stating =28/384 and then in another cell I would like a formula to extract just the 28. Basically, I have a spreadsheet where there is monthly data entered and I would like to create a YTD column without having to re-enter the information.

So in April (C2) I have the formula =28/384, May (D2) I have the formula =32/402 and June (E2) I have the formula =15/280 and I would like my YTD column (B2) formula to extract the numerators for each month, and extract the denominators for each month so I can create an automatic YTD figure.

E.g.
=(28+32+15)/(384+402+280)

Thank you!

Thank you - this looks perfect! I get Excel 2013 this week, so should be able to apply it as soon as I have been upgraded! Thanks for your quick and helpful response!

You are very welcome. :)

Pity you aren't going straight to Excel 2016.

.. but oops, I posted the wrong version where I had only converted the numerator part to deal with a range.

Hopefully correct this time.
