reference external workbook cells based on value

Ok, I have been tasked with a new project at work and it is honestly out of my scope, I have told them I will look into it but wow, this is hard even if it is possible.

We have multiple suppliers at work and my employer wanted me to create a workbook that will track all the spendature with the suppliers.

So, if I make a work book and call it "test"
And we will work with just one supplier for now, we have a workbook for them called drade

so, from test i need to access all cells in drade and put that value in column A of test, each value in its own cell in column A

There is a good chance this can't even be done, but I thought i'd ask you lot as you have been of great help to me recently.

There is a good chance this can't even be done
On what do you base the above assertion?
- is the data unreliable in any way or is it non-standardised?

What information is required for each supplier?
- expenditure only?
- detailed values or summary totals
- over what period?
- any analysis of expenditure?
- do supplier workbooks contain totals and details?
etc

Does workbook "drade" contain only one sheet?
- if more than one, please explain further

In which columns are the data that you are interested in transferring to the other workbook?

Are all supplier workbooks laid out EXACTLY the same?

Are all workbooks in the same folder?

Approx how many supplier workbooks are there? (less than 100?, 100 - 1000?, thousands?

Exactly what does the boss want to see?
- summary by month of expenditure by supplier?
- something else? what?

Which version of Excel are you using?

I will double check exactly what the manager wants. There are less than 100 suppliers. The cells I am interested in contain a £ symbol. All the workbooks are located in different folder but all only have one sheet. They all have different layouts. The cells of interest are all over the place.

The reason I said that there is a good chance it can't be done is because I didn't think you could reference an external workbook and search it for something specific. I am currently playing with the idea of a second sheet in each supplier workbook to scan sheet one for the currency and place it in column a of sheet2. But I'll hold on that and see what feedback I get here nd from the manager about exactly what she wants to see
